How the Scan-to-CAD Process Works
A practical guide to turning point clouds and polygon meshes into accurate, editable CAD models for manufacturing.
STEP 01
Capture and prepare the scan
Clean the raw point cloud, remove noise, align scan passes, and preserve the surfaces that control fit and function.
STEP 02
Define design intent
Identify datums, symmetry, wall thickness, hole centres, draft, and the features that should remain editable in CAD.
STEP 03
Rebuild the geometry
Create parametric solids or controlled NURBS surfaces instead of simply wrapping the scan with a heavy mesh.
STEP 04
Verify against the scan
Compare the reconstructed CAD to the source data with deviation maps and section checks before delivery.
